Daily Cage Checklist

Run this every time before you swing — whether at home, at the park, or in the facility. Check as you go.

Activation (2–3 min)
  • Hip mobility — leg swings, hip circlesGet the lower half loose. Timing lives in the hips.
  • Thoracic rotation — torso twists, arm circlesYour rotation drives your barrel path.
  • Shoulder band work — external/internal rotationEven 10 reps with a band protects your arm and shoulder long-term.
  • Breathe — slow it down before you pick up a batOne slow breath in, long slow out. Your nervous system resets.
Tee Work (5–8 min)
  • Set ONE intent cue before picking up the batWrite it in Section 3. Walk in with a thought, not a blank mind.
  • Middle of zone — feel for your swing todayThis is your barometer. Don't chase perfection, find your baseline.
  • Adjust based on what you felt — don't muscle through itIf something's off, identify it. That's the work.
Front / Soft Toss (5–8 min)
  • Ball in motion — now your timing is being testedThe tee is about feel. Toss is about timing. Different job.
  • Mix it up — inside, away, fast, slowVariability is the point. Your brain is learning to recognize, not memorize.
  • Quality reps only — stop when feel breaks down50 bad swings doesn't build anything. 10 great ones does.
Live Reps / Machine (if available)
  • Game-speed reps — commit to your timing planNo adjustments at the plate. Trust the work you did in the first two phases.
  • Track what pitches you're on time for vs. what fooled youWrite it in Section 5 after your session.

Mental Prep + EV Classroom

Use these the night before and the day of. The mental side is half the game.

Night Before the Game
  • Pitcher scouting — what does he throw?Hard? Changes speeds? Good breaking ball? Get anything you can from teammates or coaches.
  • Set my timing anchor — what pitch am I looking for first? Not guessing, planning. Big difference.
  • Watch one EV Classroom resource below that applies to tomorrow5 minutes of intentional review beats an hour of random YouTube.
  • Visualize 3 good at-batsSee the ball. See your timing. See the result. Feel it.
Pregame (45–60 min before)
  • What pitch am I looking for first? Write it.
  • What's my timing cue for today?
  • What's my reset if I get fooled in the first AB?
  • Cage work — one cue only. No mechanics tinkering on game day.Trust what you've built. Game day is not the time to rebuild.

Progress Markers

Not for grading. For awareness. Rate yourself honestly after any game or practice. Use this data when you talk to your coach.

Timing Awareness
I recognized pitch speed before committing to my swing
I stayed in my timing window on off-speed pitches
I had a plan before each at-bat and stuck to it
Mental Toughness
I reset after a bad at-bat instead of carrying it forward
I stayed process-focused, not result-focused
I used my reset cue when things went sideways
Preparation
I did the cage work assigned between sessions
I reviewed the EV Classroom material assigned
I showed up to my session with something to work on
